Peter Ellis

Founder at Peter Ellis New Cities

An award-winning architect and urban planner based in Chicago, Ellis is a former partner with SOM and principal at CannonDesign. He has designed major buildings and planned cities all over the world, which is now the focus of his own firm, Peter Ellis New Cities.

Ellis has designed Jaypee Sports City for a population of 1,000,000 people, which is located 30 miles to the south of New Delhi. He is presently engaged in the design of a new campus for 20,000 students at the University of Texas, Brownsville. Among his architectural commissions is the HQ for Philips Electronics in Amsterdam, and the studios for Electronic Arts in Redwood Shores, CA.

Raised in Athens, Greece, Ellis attended the American College in Halandri, and then enrolled at the American College in Paris. He returned to the United States to attend the College of Architecture at Cornell University, where he graduated in 1971.

Ellis's passion now is on the re-structuring of America’s 19th century cities, aiming to find harmonious ways for both ancient, modern and emerging cities to contribute positively to the natural environment.
