Funny or Die: Engineers as Celebs!

Funny Or Die: Engineers As Celebs!

by ROB McMANAMY | Feb 26, 2016

For this year's National Engineers Week, the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering partnered with the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and the online creative comedy portal Funny or Die to create a very fun short video. Here's how USC describes the effort:

The likely inspiration for this light-hearted, Oscars-season parody stems from the fact that NAE last week bestowed its 2016 Charles Stark Draper Prize for Engineering on Andrew J. Viterbi “for development of the Viterbi algorithm, its transformational impact on digital wireless communications, and its significant applications in speech recognition and synthesis and in bioinformatics.”

The $500,000 annual award is given to engineers whose accomplishments have significantly benefited society. (Viterbi, of course, is also the namesake of USC's engineering school.)

It's a good bet that most of us, even in the AEC space, are probably much more aware of this year's field of Oscar contenders. So, enjoy the video and share it far and wide before news of the next big engineering scandal breaks!
