BuiltWorlds, in association with Arcbazar, Autodesk, GreenApple Campus and Forum8, is proud to announce a fun competition that may help to shape the legacy of current U.S. president, Barack Obama.

While the Obama Foundation awaits designs from seven selected architecture firms, we were wondering, “What sort of Presidential Center would the people design?”

To find out, we launched an online, interactive, international design competition with the support of crowd-sourced architecture competition host Arcbazar, STEM advocate and entrepreneur GreenApple Campus, collaborative software provider Autodesk, and 3D modeling and VR specialist Forum8.

JUDGES FOR THE AWARD CEREMONY

  • Dawn Schuette - FAIA/AIA Board President
  • Tim Swanson, Cannon Design Office Practice Leader
  • Juan Moreno, JGMA President & Founder
  • Andrew Balster, Executive Dir. of Archeworks
  • Kees Kaan, Founding Principal at KAAN Architecten
  • Francisco Gonzalez-Pulido, Co-Design Lead with Helmut Jahn of Jahn Architects
  • Dana Teague, VP design Group, Dwell On Design

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

We are encouraging anyone, regardless of background, experience, or age, to participate through the competition page, which is now “live” on Arcbazar’s website. Although the results are non-binding on the Obama Foundation competition, there nevertheless will be judges, winners, cash prizes and attendant publicity, along with a Competition & Awards Ceremony.
(Design submission is now closed)

VOTING AND PRIZES

In addition to the judges, the public is encouraged to take part and vote, between June 1 - June 15, for their favorites all along the way. In total, $10,000 in prizes will be awarded, including $4,200 for the judges’ 1st Prize, and $3,000 for the Voters Choice Award. GreenApple Campus and Autodesk also will also present separate, non-monetary Student Awards.

Winners will be selected and announced June 16, 2016, at a prize ceremony and public celebration at BuiltWorlds’ new headquarters in Chicago’s West Loop.

All submitted design proposals shall be evaluated by a team of 3-5 renowned architects on June 16, 2016, at BuiltWorlds in Chicago. Also, the public should vote on project submissions and given the opportunity to provide comment on proposed designs.
