Evolving BIM Tech Is Disrupting the Market

by HOWARD DAVIS, CEO, Assemble Systems | Feb 3, 2016

Our company evolved from the minds of top tier construction professionals, passionate about technology, who sought a better way to create, share and manage construction data.

As the construction industry began to slowly shift toward a digital approach to design modeling, bidding and project management, our founders knew there had to be a better way to leverage state of the art modeling technology and cloud-based applications to solve key issues in the preconstruction process.

Now, after three years of being fully operational, Assemble Systems is quickly disrupting the BIM market by offering ground-breaking, easy-to-use technology to owners and contractors in order to make 3D modeling data more enriched and accessible, saving time and boosting productivity. Our flagship tool is one of the few construction software solutions that allows entire project teams to extract model data, add intelligence and embrace cloud technology for instant data sharing and real-time collaboration on any web browser, regardless of geolocation.

Cloud Construction: The Future of BIM

Our expert software developers have worked around the clock to incorporate the latest in secure, cloud technology to make BIM models available at the fingertips of all stakeholders involved in a project, regardless of geolocation. We’re seeing this quickly disrupt the entire construction process because for the first time, model data, project specs and essential details are synced in real-time and easily accessible to owners, construction managers, contractors and anyone involved in the project. Because the data is securely stored and accessible via cloud servers, the preconstruction workflows and processes can be improved by leaps and bounds.

This year, we’re very proud already to have announced Assemble Insight, the latest addition to our flagship model data management solution. A cloud-based tool, it liberates model data from the constraints of authoring tools allowing owners, designers, contractors, and construction managers to experience instant access for improved project predictability. We firmly believe that there is no need for accessing and using key model data to be painful or time consuming.

Assemble Insight is jam-packed with updates designed to enhance the preconstruction and construction processes for our customers, such as the ability to federate models, create tailored custom views across models and the addition of data management tools that give a significant UI/UX boost for managing model data in federated environments.

Listening to our customers is paramount in our research and development process. We want to ensure that every update we release comes from direct customer feedback on use cases and new challenges. The customer experience is everything to us. By working closely with our customers, we’re able to deliver innovative solutions quicker than our competitors, making us the industry leader in smart, approachable, enterprise BIM-related technology.

Gaining BIM Momemtum

Looking back on last year, our team led Assemble through a tremendous series of wins and accomplishments, showing our fast rise in this space. Customers are expanding their usage of Assemble and dabbling in new, smart ways to enhance the preconstruction process. Our 2015 goal was to solidify Assemble as the most valuable, easy-to-use tool for general contractors managing BIM data.

We have grown our footprint, too, more than doubling the number of projects in our system to over 4,000, representing over $5 billion in project value. Our customer portfolio continues to grow to include more and more leading general contractors, subcontractors and consultants. Today, 1 in 5 of the ENR Top 400 General Contractors are Assemble Systems customers, and that number is growing rapidly.

In 2015, our team released key product updates that expanded our solution’s comprehensive data management capabilities and introduced exciting product integrations with complimentary AEC technologies – including a recent integration partnership with iSqFt for easier sharing of BIM models during the preconstruction process.

To meet the unique needs of government-based clients and projects, we also launched the solution on Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, further embracing the latest in cloud-based applications, storage and technologies to make good on our promise to deliver truly innovative products.

Last year, Assemble was named to the 2015 Constructech 50, a listing of the most influential construction technology providers, announced in the July/August edition of Constructech Magazine. It has been a true honor for our efforts to be recognized alongside the top construction technology providers in the world. We look forward to keeping the momentum going next year.

Impact on Higher Education

Our team’s passion for delivering innovative, disruptive construction technology goes far beyond bid day. We believe that empowering the future leaders in construction with state-of-the-art technology is our way of giving back to the educational community.

Last June, we launched the Assemble Academic Program offering free software licenses to qualifying educational institutions to ensure next-generation BIM technology is readily available for students and educators. Now, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) students can make a smoother transition from classroom learning to professional careers post-graduation.

The program puts commercial class model data management software in the hands of aspiring AEC professionals, allowing students to analyze, share and access model based data. Students can also manipulate important model-based data for class projects, learn to improve design review and have a first hand in experiencing the estimation process. It gives us great joy to know we’re playing a key role in preparing our future AEC leaders for the world that awaits them.

Looking ahead

As we enter into 2016, I couldn’t be more proud of our progress. Our team is comprised of brilliant, passionate construction technology professionals and is growing rapidly. Our BIM data management technology is quickly disrupting an industry thirsty for change. As this industry evolves, we promise to continue our own evolution to meet the demands of the market by listening to our customers, embracing innovative technology practices and delivering easy to use AEC software solutions that prove their value from Day 1.
