WATCH: An Engineers Week Film Festival

Today marks the first-ever Global Day of the Engineer, an event likely long overdue. But as we know, engineers are busy, driven people. So let's not be too quick to judge them for neglecting to plan a party.

As it is, the day appropriately enough falls right in the middle of National Engineers Week, a period first set aside by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 1951. Why the last week of chilly February? 

Because NSPE intentionally wanted to hold its annual celebration during the same week every year in which George Washington's Birthday (Feb 22) is remembered. After all, the "father of our country" was also a successful land surveyor before a higher historical calling intervened.

That said, BuiltWorlds this week is joining the worthwhile effort to honor this most noble and necessary profession, the monumental achievements its members have logged throughout history, and the towering global needs that now challenge them daily. Inspiring and attracting the bright, young, and ingenious talent that must rise to that urgent challenge is Priority #1 for our industry now. With that in mind, we bring you here four engaging short videos that we encourage you to share with youngsters in your life who may still be looking for that spark called STEM.
