benefits for owners

B-HAGs are back!
"Big, hairy, audacious goals" were defined last fall by York Chan, administrator of facilities for Advocate Health Care, referring to his office's driving mission to eliminate change orders and safety incidents on all construction projects. "B-HAGS are part of our '2020 Vision' plan, which includes shooting for 50% modular construction by the year 2020," he said, speaking as a member of a public and private owners panel at the Chicago Building Congress's fall economic summit.
"We're seeing more and more modular, 'doc-in-a-box' projects in hospitals, where complex components like operating room ceiling ceilings and patient room headwalls are now being built as a unit in a factory offsite," added Chan. "We're trying to be more efficient and modular offers us faster construction that is also better quality."
At the time, Chan's comments launched a broader discussion of modular construction, but it also planted the seed for a separate event this spring that BuiltWorlds and the Illinois Chapter of the Construction Owners Association of America are now co-sponsoring, along with law firms Holland & Knight, and K&L Gates. Entitled Modularization: Benefits that Owners Want, the April 9 networking event will feature Chan, and six other stellar panelists, all well-versed in the multi-disciplinary ins and outs of this increasingly populate version of partial project delivery.
