A Bird’s-Eye View of Soviet Architecture

Show of hands. How many of you have a helicopter? Okay...how many of you are reading this from Russia? Well, more people than own a chopper. Who owns a drone? Now we’re getting somewhere.

Russian architectural photographers Denis Esakov and Dmitry Vasilenko recently used their drones to snap photos of dozens of Soviet monuments in and around Moscow. Ranging from the Stalinist era of the mid-1920’s through the architectural modernism period seen during Khrushchev’s time in power, the breathtaking aerial photographing reveals astounding geometric designs normally relegated for birds of a certain feather, you know...spy satellites! Oh, those were the days.
