Some 450 companies applied and only 11 were selected to participate. When the dust settled Dec. 10 at the inaugural Google for Entrepreneurs Demo Day - Women’s Edition in Silicon Valley, only one emerged as the big winner: Waterloo, Ontario-based Bridgit

The enterprise, which opened just last year and supplies a mobile app-based deficiency management tool for construction sites, bested women-led startups from eight countries. To qualify, companies were required to be staffed with at least one female founder and actively be in the process of raising Series A funds, ranging from $1 million to $5 million. As it happens, Bridgit was started by two female founders, Lauren (Hasegawa) Lake and Mallorie Brodie, both of whom were on hand to present their Closeout punch list application for residential and commercial construction and, later, to collect their award.

The mobile app prompted Demo Day judge and Precursor Ventures' Managing Director Charles Hudson to remark, “I’ve met about 20 to 25 companies in construction tech lately, and I thought you had the cleanest, clearest, go-to-market approach I’ve seen from anyone. It’s also really cool to see that you did exactly what you said you’d do from the time I first met you. It’s impressive to see the growth.”
