Cities Conference: Best Practices in Global Infrastructure

Many people have asked, why those of involved in designing and building American cities cannot achieve the results that are being witnessed in cities across Asia and the Middle East?  Why are we unable to rebuild infrastructure that was designed to last 75 years, but that is now 150 years old?  Why has it been so difficult to develop sustainable financing models and create resilient solutions that address a changing climate and endemic violence in urban centers?

While certain aspects of these questions cannot be answered by design alone, architects, engineers, planners, and policy makers have reflected on these concerns and offered new and innovative solutions.

During the course of this conference, we will explore some of these developments via the guidance of Peter Ellis, former Principal of SOM, leader of their Asia practice, Cannon Design Leader, and now Founder of Peter Ellis New New Cities.  During the course of this discussion, Peter will ask panelists to consider the best practices for the design and construction of cities, the role that data and sensors and playing in their design and management, and the guidance that organizations like the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Program have provided.
