UCLA A.UD Lecture Series: John Ruble

John Ruble, FAIA began his career as architect and planner in the Peace Corps, Tunisia, where a profound experience of culture, climate, and place provided lasting influences on his work. Moving to Los Angeles in the 1970s, he studied with Charles Moore at UCLA Architecture and Urban Design.  In 1977, John, Charles, and Buzz Yudell formed Moore Ruble Yudell, collaborating on a broad spectrum of architecture and urban design work.

With architecture degrees from University of Virginia and UCLA, John has been active in teaching and research, leading graduate design studios at UCLA and Cornell.  Together with Buzz Yudell, John is the 2007 AIA Los Angeles Gold Medal recipient. The firm was honored with the 2006 AIA Firm Award.

Architecture has the power to heighten our experience of place and encourage community, reinforcing our sense of belonging—socially, culturally, and personally. Moore Ruble Yudell's collaborative endeavor is to apply humanistic principles—a profound respect for the timeless dimensions of human habitation, the interdependence of individual and collective experience, the meanings and life-cycles of places—to a broad spectrum of contemporary design and planning challenges, using the best resources of technology and design innovation.
