Where do we go from here?

That’s the main topic at this year’s Anchin Construction & Development Forum, returning February 11 to the New York Academy of Sciences in Lower Manhattan, just blocks from Wall Street.

Kicking off symbolically with a panel entitled “The Costs are Too Damn High”, this high-powered one-day conference will bring together more than 30 speakers and 400-plus architects, contractors, engineers and developers. They will participate in an elevated discussion of the enormous opportunities and challenges driving today’s real estate and development market, in New York and beyond. Citing concerns that the world’s economy is faltering while construction costs are rising rapidly, speakers at this year’s forum will tackle difficult questions that bear no easy answers, but merit thoughtful strategies.

Chaired by NYC-based accountants and advisors Anchin, Block & Anchin LLP, event sponsors include structural engineers Thornton Tomasetti; DIRTT Environmental Solutions; 3D rendering specialists Arqui300; YSG Solar; and more. BuiltWorlds is a media marketing partner for the event.

How To Make Ends Meet In Today's Real Estate Construction & Development Industry

The Forum’s two keynotes are mega-developer Larry Silverstein and Maria Torres-Springer, president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). Silverstein is the billionaire real estate mogul and owner of the World Trade Center. They each will address a variety of issues, ranging from bleeding-edge design to governmental red tape and public-private partnerships. One major theme on the agenda will be the growing number of large mixed-use developments --larger than 1 million square feet-- that promise true work, life, play environments that may alleviate growing transportation difficulties and transform neighborhoods at the same time.

One highlight is expected to be a special presentation by JDS principal Simon Koster, builder of many of the most high-profile buildings throughout the New York metro area. He will outline a new paradigm for cooperation between architects, construction managers and developers.

Nearly three dozen industry thought leaders from firms such as Slate;, Charney;, Victor Group, RXR, Taconic, and DDG will be on hand at in 7 World Trade Center for this deep dive into all things construction and development related.
